Guess who gets to count 1,000 pens…from 10,000…in 7 large boxes…with 4 smaller boxes inside
At least they’re a cool blue and made from #recycled #water #bottles

What’s in a Name?

To say ones own name, is to expose a part of your heart.

So I don’t have a very common name; Gamaliel.
And the other day I was minding my own business at a workshop, but then I started talking to this older woman.  [It was a workshop on starting up a website.]  She wasn’t sure if the computer was on where she was sitting previously, so moved next to me where the monitor was turned on already.
(I thought she would have a hard time with this whole computer business, but not at all.)

Anyway, we started talking as I helped her out whenever she was lost or confused.  She was a nice lady, late 50’s, early 60’s; a photography Major at Columbia College Chicago.  I kept thinking that it was such a great thing, for her to come and get the degree she always wanted even so late in life.

She took notes in her notebooks while I scurried and quickly added the pages as quickly as the instructor mentioned them.  I hadn’t thought about the different learning styled our generational gaps had on us; I reacted quickly with fluency, while she took detailed notes in order to reproduce the results at home at a much slower pace.

After the workshop, we kept talking and she asked for my name.  I excitedly handed her one of my new business cards, information side up.

When she flipped it over to read my name…she pronounced it correctly.  That was the first time anyone had ever said it on the first try.  I was amazed when she told me that she had worked with someone by the name: Gamaliel.

At that moment, I was crushed, ever so slightly.  I had always felt sincerely special all of my life.  My name isn’t common at all, I’m always the exotic person.  But at this moment, I felt like my exclusivity had been stripped.  I’ve never shared something as personal as my name before with another person; this is a possession that can never be taken from me.

I can’t imagine what it’s like to be labeled with such a common name as Abby, Joe, or John.  Do they not feel a personal connection, knowing that products for them are mass produced.  They will always find their name on the keychains at a gas station.  I won’t.

To say ones own name, is to expose a part of your heart.  You have one impression to make on others when your name is different.  Mine is mostly all the same: “It’s Gama, like “Dalai Lama”, or Gama like the “Gamma Radiation”.”  I’ve noticed that when I let them pick, their choices mean something; the audible width of Radiation is reminiscent of a youthful innocence, while the the long, tall Lama presents a powerful stoic presence.

I’m still not sure how to say my name, I can always change it when I like by correcting others.  But the thing I know; I will never find my name on a gas station key chain.

Good thing I don’t have a car.
That’s filming twice in a month on my block.

I may or may not have kicked this sign down.
It may or may not have already been on the ground.
It may or may not want to be a tow zone.
All I know is that it has an attitude.

"Full"
If you look at the word to long, it turns to a collection of lines and symbols.
It loses meaning and any connection to language.
